Seventy4 has been offering individual addiction counselling to London residents since the charity’s inception in 1974 and, because of the service’s longevity and vast experience, it has a reputation second to none.

This service is offered to a range of clients:

  • People struggling with any form of addiction
  • People who have never previously accessed any kind of treatment for addiction
  • People who have been in full-time residential treatment and need further support or 'aftercare'
  • People who have been in recovery for some time, but need to explore further issues
In addition, individual counselling is offered to the family members or carers of people who have an addiction problem. This is a safe and secure way to explore the dynamics of living with addiction and to help the individual to find solutions and strategies around it.

If family members or carers would like to attend with their significant others, Seventy4 can also offer couples counselling with an experienced facilitator.

Counselling is available at Seventy4 from Monday to Friday 9.30am - 5.00pm and until 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Sessions
Individual Counselling Sessions are weekly and 50 minutes in length.

The sessions are delivered by highly experienced and qualified counsellors/psychotherapists. Addiction is a specialist area of therapeutic support and Seventy4 clinicians are highly proficient within the field.

Individual counselling is a place to explore whatever the client identifies. The initial focus will be on helping clients to overcome their addiction; to look at what it means to be an addict; understand relapse prevention techniques and to explore additional ways of seeking support in the community.

As the counselling unfolds, the focus will invariably change to understand what led an individual along the road of addiction; to understand relationships with others and to focus on what opportunities life offers free from substances.

Individual counselling is an opportunity, like no other in life, where the focus is totally on the individual and their psychological well-being. It is a personal opportunity to achieve individual understanding and to make long-term change that will affect the rest of your life.

What is Expected of the Client?
Clients must be abstinent throughout their counselling sessions at Seventy4.

The counselling is delivered in 12 week blocks and clients are expected to attend weekly to maximise the potential of the sessions.

The Referral Process
If you would like to receive individual counselling, the first stage is to attend an assessment with a trained counsellor.

If you ring the Seventy4 office a member of the administration team will take some basic details from you and make an appointment at a suitable time for you to have an assessment. This will take approximately 50 minutes.

The assessment process will gauge if Seventy4 is the right place for you and you will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the organisation.

If you can afford to pay for yourself, you will be asked to pay weekly.

However, if you need financial assistance, it may be possible to secure funding through Social Services departments (substance misuse teams) in your borough of residence. You will need to make an appointment with them to assess your eligibility for this funding before booking an assessment at Seventy4.
